Alfonso Lucas, founding partner of Genoma Laboratorio, will be attending Bodega Pinuaga in Corral de Almaguer to give a talk to local winegrowers during a course held at the winery on January 15 and 16, 2024.
The course, organized by Spanish Organic Wines, sponsored by Legacies and developed by Origin (Julio Prieto and Emilio Peiro), deals with “Respectful Pruning: Goblet Pruning, Cordon Royat and Guyot Pruning”, and is aimed at winegrowers in the area, with the aim of improving the skills of those responsible for pruning and optimizing quality production over quantity, improving the survival rate of the vineyards and thus extending their productive stage.
Genoma Laboratorio was invited to participate in the course, to give a training talk on “Yellow spider and green mosquito, two pests linked to climate change”, in order to make winegrowers aware of the risk of both pests, derived from the climatic conditions that have been occurring in recent years in the area, with abnormally high temperatures during periods when they should be milder.
The talk aims to complement and diversify the course's specific training related to pruning work and warn of the risk of both pests in the immediate future if the abnormal weather conditions that have been occurring in recent years continue.
He was also invited to discuss the Genome Laboratory's activities related to grape cultivation to the more than 25 students who attended the course.
