Alfonso Lucas, founding partner of Genoma Laboratorio, participated as a speaker at the second edition of Citrus Forum, giving a presentation entitled: Thrips in Citrus Fruit: Some Tips for Optimizing Their Control.
The talk aimed to focus on the criteria and parameters that must be taken into account, in a practical way, when addressing the monitoring and control of thrips in citrus crops, regardless of the species.
Recommendations were given regarding the biology and behavior of thrips, including the most susceptible stages requiring treatment and the most dangerous ones for the crop, and related to crop phenology. These recommendations are intended to optimize pest control possibilities and avoid unnecessary treatments in many cases.
Growing concerns among farmers and technicians often lead to anxiety, leading to decisions about actions that may not actually be necessary. The recommendations given during the discussion sought to optimize the criteria for making such decisions.
The talk was attended by more than 800 in-person attendees and more than 300 online, proving to be of great interest and benefit to all.
