Genoma Laboratorio attends the Technical Conference on new species of thrips in citrus fruits

Genoma Laboratorio has been present at the Technical Conference organized by the Plant Health Service of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Region of Murcia, on "Problems generated by new species of thrips in citrus fruits. Searching for solutions for the sector." which was held on February 27, 2024 in Torre Pacheco.

Highlight the presentation of the Dr. Pablo Bielza, from the UPCT, in which he provided attendees with easy-to-use mechanisms that allow field technicians to classify the thrips species they find in their crops, and also offered the opportunity to participate in practical workshops on thrips classification, which the UPCT plans to develop in the immediate future.

However, his intervention highlighted the difficulty in determining some closely related species, such as Scirtotrips dorsalis, S. citri either S. aurantii, making it clear that when doubts arise, either a specialist entomologist is consulted or a PCR analysis is performed to determine with certainty the species in question.

In this sense, Genome Laboratory can clearly help the sector by providing its service portfolio with the appropriate protocols to carry out such determinations with absolute reliability and speed.
