Genome Laboratory visits the Diego Puerta Experimental Farm, from GreenLight Biosciences

José Manuel Lucas, Scientific Director of Genoma Laboratorio, and Alfonso Lucas, founding partner, travel to Seville to visit the Diego Puerta global agricultural experimental farm, owned by GreenLight Biosciences.

GreenLight Biosciences is an American company that researches, produces, and markets RNA interference (RNAi)-based solutions for controlling crop pests and diseases. This technology is based on the use of small double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) molecules that silence specific genes, preventing the development of target pathogens.

During the visit, they were accompanied by Angel Tello, the station's director and responsible for its implementation and management, who showed them the laboratory and office facilities, as well as the facilities used for the reproduction and conservation of insects and fungi used in field trials.

They also had the opportunity to visit the test fields, both those outdoors and those carried out inside greenhouses designed to force the crops being tested, allowing for up to two replicates per year for the same crop and phytopathological problem. The visit is part of the Genoma Laboratorio's efforts to disseminate its activities and to connect with leading companies in the sector, with which to establish potential future synergies.

GreenLight Biosciences has just registered the first commercial product based on this technology (Calantha®) in the US against the Colorado potato beetle.
